What is local SEO?

1.What does local SEO mean?
Local SEO (local Search Engine Optimization) is a subset of SEO that is focused on optimizing a business’s online assets to make it rank higher in search engine results for local, geographically-related queries and be more visible in local search results.
2.What is the difference between local SEO and national SEO (or global SEO)?
The main difference between local SEO, national SEO and international SEO is the geographic scope of the search results. Local SEO is focused on providing search engines with specific location-related information to increase visibility for geographically-related queries (such as queries including the name of the city or region where the business is located) and attract more clients from the local area. On the other hand, national and global SEO are focused on optimizing a site to rank well in search results for non-local queries, on a national or worldwide scale.
3.What's the difference between local SEO and Google My Business management?
Google Business Profile (GBP), formerly Google My Business (GMB), is a free listing service provided by Google to businesses, to allow them to manage their digital presence across Google properties, including search results and Google Maps.
Local SEO is a comprehensive approach to improve the visibility of a site in local search results. While GMB is an important aspect of local SEO, and it is recommended for businesses to claim and verify their business on GMB, it is only a subset of local SEO.
OK, but...

Why does local SEO
matter for my business?

The goal of local SEO is to help companies increase their local visibility in search engines and mapping services (such as Google Maps), in order to attract more customers from their local area. Think of it as a personal GPS for your business, guiding potential clients straight to your doorstep and making you stand out from your local competition!

Increased visibility in local search results, better online reputation, more website traffic, foot traffic and phone calls, better competitive edge over your competitors, and in the end, more customers and higher sales... is this something you're willing to miss out on?

What businesses
need local SEO?

Local SEO is important for all businesses who need clients... which means pretty much every business! But it is especially important for small businesses, local businesses, and companies targeting specific geographic areas.

Local SEO is essential to companies that have a physical store that clients can visit, such as brick-and-mortar retail stores (owning one or multiple stores), restaurants, bars and other food-service companies. It is also very important for businesses that serve clients in a specific geographical area, such as delivery or service-based companies. This includes local service providers (like plumbers, electricians, accountants and lawyers), as well as local service-based businesses (such as salons and auto repair shops).

How does local SEO work?

Local SEO works by optimizing a business's digital presence to make it more visible in search engine results for geographically-related queries. This optimization typically involves a number of different tactics and strategies, including creating (or claiming) and optimizing business listings on popular directories and online maps (such as Google My Business) ; conducting local keyword research and keyword mapping ; optimizing your website ; building local citations and local backlinks from other relevant and reputable websites in the area ; as well as obtaining and managing client reviews.

Why should I hire a local SEO consultant?

1.What are local SEO services?
Local SEO services are a set of professional services offered by an expert company (consultant or agency) to optimize a website and its digital presence for a specific geographic area, so that it can rank well in search engine results for geographically-related keywords. Some examples of local SEO services include local listing management and optimization, local keyword research, on-page local SEO, local landing page and content creation, citation and local link building, client review management, as well as advanced analytics tracking and reporting.
2.Can I do my own local SEO? Why should I outsource it?
You can certainly try to do your own local SEO, but there are several reasons why you might want to consider outsourcing it to a professional company, including expertise, time and resources, as well as access to specialized tools. Keep in mind that local SEO is an ongoing process that requires consistent monitoring, updating, and fine-tuning over time, so it may be worth to outsource it to professionals if you have a small team and/or do not have the capacity to do it internally.

How does Local SEO services work?

1.How long does local SEO take?
The time it takes for local SEO to have an impact on your business can vary depending on a number of factors, including the competitiveness of your industry, the current state of your website and digital presence, and your marketing budget. In general, it can take anywhere from several months to a full year for local SEO to have an impact on your business. Keep in mind that local SEO is a long-term strategy and it will take ongoing effort to maintain and improve your rankings over time, , but it is worth considering as it can really drive users to your business when they are actively searching for your products or services in your area.
2.How much do local SEO services cost?
The cost can vary greatly depending on the services being offered and the company (consultant or agency) providing them. Typically, local SEO services are offered on a monthly retainer basis, as it is an ongoing process and require continuous work, so the cost needs to be sustained over time. The cost can range anywhere from $500 per month (optimization of a single listing for a small business) to $5,000+ per month (optimization of multiple listings and the website of a larger business with several locations). Remember that cheaper prices don't always mean better services, and it's essential to discuss what you want to achieve to be able to identify the service that best meets your needs.
3.Is local SEO a one-time thing? Do you offer one-time local SEO services?
Local SEO is not a set-it-and-forget-it kind of thing: in order to maintain and improve your rankings, you need to be continuously working on it. This includes ongoing activities such as tracking your keywords, creating high-quality content, building backlinks, and fixing technical issues on your website. As a result, most local SEO consultants do not offer one-time local SEO packages, or pay-as-needed local SEO consulting. Instead, they offer ongoing local SEO plans (monthly packages) to ensure your website remains optimized and that your local SEO efforts are continuously delivering good results. This being said, you can also choose to buy custom local SEO consulting sessions. For instance, this can be helpful if you’re doing your own local SEO but would like a second opinion of an experienced professional on your local SEO strategy. Feel free to book a free consultation call with me to find out if this solution would be beneficial for you.
